“Irrinova Darek” is a scheme that provides financial assistance up to a maximum of €15,000 to those who wish to renovate or improve their residence to be more efficient.
The Scheme was announced during a press conference addressed by the Minister for Justice and Reform in the Construction sector, Jonathan Attard, together with the CEO of the Building and Construction Authority, Architect Roderick Bonnici. Various partners and mayors of localities where the Scheme will be available were also present.
This Scheme was already introduced in 2022 for residents of the Port Region, and this year it is being extended to the Northern Region. According to the Local Councils Act, the aim is that over the coming years, the Scheme will also be distributed amongst the Southern, Eastern, Western and Gozo Regions.

The Scheme, for this year, will be divided into two aids, namely 75% and 90% of the cost, with a maximum of €15,000 and an additional €1,000 for those installing a water heater pump. Couples earning less than €50,000 between them and single persons earning less than €35,000 will be entitled to 90% of the total cost, while single persons earning more than €35,000 and couples earning more than €50,000 will be entitled to 75% of the cost.
Minister Jonathan Attard explained that this support is based on principles of social justice, as promised in the Electoral Manifesto, and aims to assist those with a lower income.
“The ‘Irrinova Darek’ scheme aims to help people continue sustaining their respective investment in the property, and to elevate the quality of that investment. Through this Scheme, we will be helping all those who are owners or tenants of residential property to make the necessary changes to make the property they live in more energy efficient,” said Minister Attard.
BCA Chief Executive, Architect Roderick Bonnici, explained that applications will be open from the 23rd of July to the 31st of August 2025, and can only be made online on http://bca.gov.mt. The Scheme is open to homeowners, tenants and even voluntary organisations, provided that interventions are carried out to improve the Energy performance Certificate (EPC) of the property.
For this second call, only residents of the following localities may apply: Attard, Balzan, Naxxar, Mellieħa, Mġarr, Mosta, Mtarfa, San Ġwann and St Paul’s Bay.
Mr Bonnici concluded by saying that the aim is to extend the Scheme across the country within five years, so that everyone is given the opportunity to improve their residence in a sustainable and responsible manner.
