The Ministry for Justice and the Reform of the Construction sector has announced that the Board of the Building and Construction Authority (BCA) has appointed Architect Roderick Bonnici as the new Chief Executive of the Authority with immediate effect.
Minister for Justice and Reform of the Construction sector Jonathan Attard inaugurated Architect Bonnici for further work as regards accountability towards higher standards in the construction sector, and added that the Authority is increasingly strengthening and establishing a stronger role in the construction sector.
While congratulating Architect Bonnici for his new role, Minister Attard said that his appointment as Chief Executive is part of the ongoing restructuring process within the Authority, where in recent months in his role as acting Chief Executive he propagated a number of initiatives so that the same Authority continues to respond more effectively.
“The Government’s commitment is to continue raising standards in the construction sector, in line with the electoral manifesto and recommendations of the public inquiry where a few days ago, we gave a clear account of the number of measures we implemented and are working on to achieve these targets,” said Minister Jonathan Attard.
Over the last few months, Architect Bonnici has been occupying the role of acting Chief Executive within the Authority, where he was directly involved in a number of important measures, including the launch of a new Helpline for everything related to Construction and Health and Safety, an agreement with the Occupational Health and Safety Authority for more cooperation between the two authorities towards easier access for citizens, the Licensing of builders and contractors, and the signing of an agreement which will bring together the main partners in the construction sector to work with commitment on the implementation of a National Building and Construction Codes.
He was previously the head of the section approving permit applications within the Building and Construction Authority, graduated in Bachelor of Engineering and Architecture as well as qualified in Masters in project Management from the University of Malta.
